Dustin Davis
I was born in 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah. I grew up in Roosevelt, Utah. I had a fun childhood with an older brother and a younger sister. It got not-so-fun for a while when my parents separated and later divorced when I was in sixth grade. My brother and sister moved to Salt Lake with my mom, while I stayed in Roosevelt with my dad. My eighth grade year my brother moved back to Roosevelt with my dad and I bravely (I’m just a shy small-town boy) moved out to Salt Lake with my Mom and sister. I went to Wasatch Jr. High for two years then moved back to Roosevelt where I much preferred to grow up.
I served in the South Africa Cape Town Mission from November 1996 - 1998. I served in Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay, Cape Town, Mdantsane, and Belville. The Gospel is growing in South Africa and I would love to go back some day…
When I returned home, I moved back out to Salt Lake City and got a job at Intermountain Health Care (IHC - Now SelectHealth). I started on the phones then moved to claims and hated both. Then I got into QA and found a job that really suited me well. My greatest accomplishment was meeting my beautiful wife Rachel. She used to transfer calls to me. I sent her and email, and the rest, as they say, is history!
We got married in the Salt Lake Temple sometime in June 2000. I can’t remember the exact date… (j/k)
We struggled for a few years trying to have children, but after lots of prayers and the help of doctors we now have two of the most beautiful children I have ever seen in my entire life! Seriously.
My family currently resides in Taylorsville, Utah and I work in Murray for 3M as an “Automation Engineer.” My wife and I teach the 17 & 18 year olds & Young Single Adults Sunday School class each week. We really enjoy this calling as it keeps us together. In our previous ward My wife was a Relief Society president called at the ripe old age of 21 and later in the primary presidency, while I was an assistant ward clerk the whole 4 years we were there. My calling as a ward clerk let to many software developments enjoyed around the world today.
I really enjoy computers, especially web development. I do freelance work in my less than spare time. You can see my works here. I also enjoy sports. I was voted most athletic by my senior class, but now, 10 years later, it would be hard to tell!
Baseball is the sport I am most passionate about. We are big Braves fans and Yankee haters. Though I did name my son after the Yankee great, Lou Gehrig (his name is Gehrig, not Lou).
UPDATE Apr 2006
I’m now working at Microfilm Service Corporation alongside Brandon. I’m currently writing an application for use in LDS Family History Centers. I’m still teaching Sunday school, though my wife has been pulled into a new primary presidency. Oh well, it was fun to serve with my wife while it lasted!
UPDATE Jun 2006
I was released from my calling in Sunday School. I’ll miss that young group. I guess it was time though. Five of my class members left within two weeks - 2 moved, 1 went on a summer sales program to Chicago, and 2 were were ordained Elders and called to be Sunday school teachers for other classes. I was called as Elders quorum president.
